    I am trying to back up a PGP encrypted HDD.  I found instructions that said to quite the GUI when I boot up the Ghost DVD to get to the command prompt, find the right directory and enter Ghost32.exe -IR -AUTO -FRO.

    First, I could not see how to get out of the GUI after I booted the Ghost DVD.  I tried Exit and that just rebooted the computer.

    Second, I looked over the Ghost 15 DVD and I could not find where the Ghost32.exe was stored.  So, I don't know which directory to change to.

    So, can I get some advice in 1) how to get to a command prompt after booting the GUI from my DVD and 2) which directory has the Ghost32.exe I need to change to to run the switches above.  Note, I am assuming there is no way to backup a PGP HDD without using the switches.

    As you have retail Ghost 15, may I direct you to the Norton Community via the sticky posting at the top of this forum. This forum is for the corporate Ghost Solution Suite product which is based on different technology to Norton Ghost.

    I am unfamiliar with the structure of the Ghost 15 product CD, but one technique that is sometimes used when DOS booting is to create a virtual drive in memory and unpack a compressed file into that virtual disk to execute it.  If WinPE is being used, the virtual drive is normally the X: drive and the Ghost executable will be in there.

    I am sure the Norton community can give you more specific guidance.

    As to whether or not a PGP encrypted drive can be imaged successfully, I would strongly recommend you consult the PGP forums and establish whether this is possible, or whether you will need to add some specific drivers to your boot environment.

    We have done the initial test run on machine having PGP installed and observed the issues with it. Currently we do not support the imaging of PGP encrypted HDD. However there should not be any issue if you image the hdd using sector by sector (we have not tested it due to time constraint).

    @Nitin

    Was your testing carried out with GSS 2.5.1 build 2266 or were you testing with Norton Ghost 15?

    Testing done with the ghost binaries from GSS 2.5.1 build 2266. We had discussed with GSS development team and they said it requires code change to support PGP encryption.

    Thank you for confirming that. Although the original posting referred to Norton Ghost rather than GSS, it is worth knowing that GSS has issues with imaging PGP encrypted drives.
