When you install NBU on the first node, you enter the virtual, or cluster name.  This will be different than the 'node name' and then NBU detects that this may be a cluster (as the install name if different that the nodename (what you see in uname -a) .

The install script then asks if you want to install as a cluster, and then takes you through a number of questions to set this up.

Regarding NBU, all a cluster is an install with the DB on 'shared' disk (so it can move across to the other node), with NBU installed with a 'virtual/ cluster name', a floating IP address for this virtual name (so the IP stays the same when it fails over) .

One more doubt:

I have a virtaul server A

node 0 ---> B

node 1 --->C

Here,what would be the:

  1. cluster name
  2. cluster group
  3. server group
  4. hagrp

NIKHIL, these are CLUSTER software questions, not NBU.

You have asked similar questions before:

You never really told us which Cluster software is used in your environment?

Cluster group and service group is the same thing - these are the different terms used in different Cluster software applications - VCS calls it service group, Microsoft (which you won't have on your Linux installation) calls it cluster group.

If VCS is used in your environment, the cluster name is chosen the first time VCS is installed and configured. This cluster name is not linked to any application that is clustered and is stored in
'haclus -display' will possibly list cluster name.

'hagrp -list' will list service group names.

PLEASE do not ask CLUSTER questions in this forum - NetBackup questions only.

If you are interested in VCS and how it works, please start here:

Scroll down to Veritas Storage Foundation and High Availability and select the product documentation for your OS and version.
