Cluster Upgrade

Created: 25 May 2011 | 4 comments

Hello all-

I have recently been given the task of upgrading 2 PGP Universal servers running ver. 2.10 in a clustered environment to the latest version (3.12?). We use these servers solely for WDE. The upgrade process looks fairly straightforward for single servers- install new version, restore from backup. My question is this, what is the preferred method for upgrading a cluster? Should I break the cluster apart first, upgrade both servers, restore from backup, and rejoin the secondary? Thanks in advance-

I think this upgrade guide will help.

Thank you for the quick response. I read through that and was unsure if the process was the same since we aren't using any of the mail or web messeging features; just the WDE features. Do we still need to run the  pgpSyncUsers utility?

Thanks again-

Although I'm not really in this area, I see that this also synchs WDRTs.

Then you need to run the PGPSyncusers Utility. Whether you are doing messaging, mail or WDE it doesn't matter. If you were clustering in version 2.12 or older then you need to run the PGPSyncUsers utility. This is a requirement, if not done, it can cause major problems with the upgrading of your cluster. Such as loosing information on encrypted machines/device id's/WDRT's, etc.
