CMS 7.1 Released
Created: 07 Mar 2011 | Updated: 08 Mar 2011 | 24 comments
Well at least as much as a new symantec.pl.xml dated today is available with mentions versions including 7.1. Can’t see a SIM that works on R2 yet nor official documentation or announcement yet, I’m sure this will be forthcoming imminently.
EDIT- As mentioned in another post, CMS 7.1 has indeed been released, the "symantec_sim_7_1_55.exe" installer is available from the trailware link. The "Altiris Endpoint Management Migrations to 7.1" page has been updated accordingly with link to all the new documentation.

I don't think SP1 is supported btw (2008R2).
Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 is not supported. I have heard it does horrible no good very bad things. Anyways stick w/ just Windows 2008 R2 and you should be good.
Still getting the 32-bit 7.0 SIM but not suprised as it should come out sometime Mountain Time based on past releases

Where is the updated symantec.pl.xml located? A url anyone?
http://www.solutionsam.com/solutions/pl/symantec.p...
Which is the same location as for your 7.0 installation files.
Note that the Symantec Installation Manager may take a little longer to be released by Symantec, but at least all the code is ready and hopefully only a few days away.

in case someone is interested, here's a full ist of packages from the aformentioned pl.xml file.
The tree structure is 111 folder with 1,759 packages.
It's far too long.
I'm attaching it as text instead ^_^.

Thanks for the pl.xml file, but it won't do us much good without a SIM which installs on a 64-bit server. The current 7.0 SIM simply doesn't install.

What is the url to navigate to the tree? I've tried using the permeations I can think of.
so even with the full url you cannot get to them. In effect the file path are pointing (or redirected) to an aspx page that checks whether you have a valid download session id. The session id is retrieved on a web-service by sending the export compliance information you filled in on SIM.
So the system is fully locked to make sure export compliance at all time. This is something Altiris didn't do, but that's well locked as you can see now.
The SIM should be available on the Trialware section of Symantec.com later on today.
Sorry for bringing in the news too early.

well it would be http://www.solutionsam.com/Solutions/7/ga/ but that directory is restricted to not allow directory browsing (unlike the /Solutions/6/ URL which is browsable.
Rob: Can you use the NS 7.1 Beta SIM and point it to the new PL.XML file?
Thanks,

I've installed the beta sim, pointed it to the new symantec.pl.xml and got a new sim installer.
I've done this on my windows 7 x64 machine. After that created a installation package and copied to my brand new windows 2008 r2 sp1 server.
And now I see that jesse was right, installer doesn't allow you to install 7.1 on a server with sp1 applied
That's awesome!
SIM 7.1 is now available if you click on the "Trialware" link in:

Great, I downloaded 7.1 to run in a lab using Server 2008 R2 from MS and it has SP1 already installed. Does anyone know how to uninstall SP1?
If the backup files got removed ("DISM.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /spsuperseded"), you cannot uninstall SP1.
If they are stil there: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff81765...
I thought about this and I should not be trying to remove an OS service pack, but Symantec needs to come out with a fix for their system. I will NOT be putting a server into production missing a service pack. The company I work for is SOX compliant and our auditors would not allow such a thing.
Can´t belive it won´t work with SP1...
Any word yet from Symantec? Since SP1 is a must.

Problem with 2008 SP1 was already fixed. Fix will be available in ITMS 7.1 service pack, hopefully before the summer.
As I know, it is possible to install ITMS 7.1 on the 2008.R2 server without the SP1 and install SP1 after that. Full testing of such config has not performed, but minimal testing does not reveal any problems. I could not suggest this for production configuration, but this is probably suitable for the evaluation purposes.
Thank you,
Alex.
Thanks for testing that out and posting Alex... I was wondering the same thing myself.

Thats not much use as you cannot download the version from MS that doesnt have the service pack embedded.
Not that I can find anyway, if anyone can find one on there site please advise as I want to install on a VM to test before even thinking of updating.
Silly that Symantec released something that cannot be installed..... sort of a product killer in my opinion.
So, am I to understand this is the release version of CMS 7.1 now? It's not still the beta version?
This is the release version.
Yes release version. Last week I just receive an email from the support that I cas migrate to new SMS 7.1 thanks to the renewal support.
But not mentionned for CMS 7.1...
I test it on VM : it's very fast thanks to Flash ans Silverlight. Clear interface.... but my company use Recovery Solution.
I must wait the new product that it will replace Recovery Solution.
I would suggest that you contact your symantec sales rep about RS. It might be that there is a 7.1 version is coming just like there was a 7.0 version for existing RS customers.
