Symantec Management Platform (Notification Server)

Hi,

I am trying to create a collection of computers that have Office 2007 installed for one of our departments and I am using the department's collection that was created from the AD import (I am importing the OU) as an explicit inclusion. Everything work fine and the collection includes the 109 computers in that department, but once l I add a query and set a filter for Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 I get all the computers for the department plus another 150+ computers that were being displayed before I added the filter. Once I set the query to none everything goes back and the collection only displays the department's PCs.

I thought that the issue was with an exclusion I had also set for their kiosks and lab computers but removing the exclusion did not help.

I was wondering if anyone had ever run into this before. I did a quick search on the KB and the forum but I did not find anything that was like this issue.

The collections are always inclusive, so what you are seeing is all the computers in the collection + those with office. You would have to setup a query that includes membership in both.

I don't have access to whip up a query, but there are plenty of examples of these types of queries around.

Thank you for your reply. I think am following you about collections being inclusive, but I am not sure I am following you on setting up a query that would include both. I found that if I created a secured collection and set its membership to the department and then added the filter it worked, but I think your method would be better. I will keep digging around for examples, I am still a little green since I just started working with Altiris not too long ago, about 6-7 months.

The query would include collection membership in your directory collection and the software you installed. I will see if I can come up with something later. It would even be possible to setup a parameter dropdown to select the collection (so that wouldn't be hardcoded).
