Collection Process in v10 - Stable?

Created: 04 Feb 2013 • Updated: 26 Feb 2013 | 2 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

I'm curious what everyone's experiences are on the Collections process in v10 and beyond.

We stopped using it (obviously on new partitions only) quite a while ago (v9 or maybe even v8) because we were finding too many instances of CAB file corruption, with missing items, etc. Many of these issues weren't realized until we needed to export or move an archive and then it's too late. So we created new partitions without Collections enabled. That wouldn't help with existing issues but we were trying to stop from adding any future problems.

We have a very large EV installation with multiple sites, servers and many many archives. We're looking to upgrade from v9.0.3 to 10.0.3 by mid-year. Once we get to V10 I would consider using collections again only if the process were very stable. I am considering using collections again because the backup issues caused by multiple millions of small files are mounting.

So if you would, please tell me your opinions and experiences with the current version of Collections.

IMHO it's much better now.

Would I use it in production ?  Maybe.

I'd explore other options first though like making partitions 'smaller', and closing them off frequently (ish)

I am in favor of using, but do use an long period before cabbing. Make sure, and doublesure that the locations are excluded from av-scanning. That is the only thing i have experienced causing issues. I have been in large environments too. Do a search for "sparse collections" and read the entry you find. It explains well the pro and cons.

Found it:
