Collector Reference Guides

I think the collector reference guides and the Event Collector Integration Guide are leaving something to be desired.  They are not clear as to what your options are.  Possibly providing some example deployment scenarios for each collector would be nice.

As a for instance, the DB2 collector.  It states it can be an "on-the-box collector".  However, the sensor properties show that it is a log file based sensor.  It then has a default value of "C:\".  But in most cases you are collecting from a remote server (remote to the SSIM).  Why not give examples of how that would be accomplished if connecting to an external DB2 on Windows or *nix?  Can a remote log file path be specified, and if so, it looks as though you can't specify username/passwords to connect to that log file remotely.

Again, I think some common deployment scenarios with associated example sensor properties would help alleviate confusion.  This is something I see commonly among clients that are deploying SSIM.  The first thing they mention is that the collector guides are quite confusing.

Have you looked at

The Collector Integration Guide?  There are some deployment scenarios with diagrams included in this guide.  This guide is publically available on the support site here
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/overview.jsp?pid=52517

There is always a constant struggle to ensure that a single guide is useful, but not repetitive of information when you are deploying multiple collectors.  So this guide was created as a general "read this and be familiar because it generally applies to all collectors" and then the individual collector guides were intended to be tighter in product scope.
