  • 1.  Combine or merge the inventory record

    Posted Jan 09, 2012 02:26 AM

    Hi Everyone,

How do I merge or combine two inventory record into ONE?

I have a record which is discover by IP address, and I have another inventory record discover by VM scan. The discover by ping have more details information, like the computer name, IP address, etc. But the discover by VM, which only have the "Resource Name" that same as the VM record and only contain the OS information.

How to I merge these 2 records in a single one? Or, I need to remove one and keep the full details one? I have attached the Resrouces Record as reference.

    Thanks and regards,

    Carmel Lee

After highlighting the two resources, right click and select "Merge resources."  You can then select which resource is "primary" and which data class information to retain (by default, it selects the most recent).

    Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your reply. But from my console, I didn't have the "Merge resources". Is there anything I missed? Or I need to have the AMS module install?

Here is what I have on my console:

    Thanks and regards,

Yes, that right click option is created by CMDB Solution which is part of AMS.  That is the only way of that I know to manually merge computer resources.  There is a merge duplicate resources scheduled task that is installed with the SMP but I don't believe it is quite as robust as the functionality in AMS.

I thought I heard that CMDB was part of CMS these days.  Have you tried installing CMDB Solution and then merging the resources?  You may be licensed for it just by having CMS.
