  • 1.  Communication update package vs finding unmanaged client

    Hello Team,

I have been watching this video

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/videos/mak...

Is this the same as finding the unmanged clients and deploying the package(symantec antivirus package) on that client ?

how is  the communicaiton update package deployment different from the above one.

    Thanks

It is different in that it only replaces the sylink on clients, it does not upgrade or install SEP to them.

By replacing the sylink, you than connect that client to the SEPM you just pushed from.

Communication update package only replaces sylink (communication) file

Find unmanaged allows you to install SEP to clients that did not previously have SEP installed.

    Ok ... Thanks _Brian.

So,communication update package only replaces sylink(communication) file on the computer which is already having SEP installed ... right ?

when we install SEP on a computer does it contain sylink file to communicate with the SEPM ?

    Thanks

So,communication update package only replaces sylink(communication) file on the computer which is already having SEP installed ... right ? Yes, this is correct

when we install SEP on a computer does it contain sylink file to communicate with the SEPM ? Yes, it will contain the sylink file to communicate back to the SEPM you created the package and did the install from

If we install the SEP manually, instead of pushing it through SEPM,will it contain the sylink file ?

if a computer is not communicating with the SEPM or not updating the SEP defintions,it means sylink file is not present/corruped and need to update the sylink file.

    Thanks .

yes when you export the package you will get an option to install as unmanged or mangaged representing a group, this will include sylink file as well.

if sylink is not present it will not communicate, other things like port issue/ firewall will cause the communication problems.
