Compatability check for installing netbackup on Mac OS

Hi All,

Can anyone help me in installing netbackup on MAC OS 10.5.5 version.

What is the compatible netbackup version to run on a MAC OS 10.5.5 version ????????

Please attach here any related technote also let me know What all the informtion is required in installing netbackup on MAC OS 10.5.5 VERSION.

Folks, come up a with solution ASAP.

try NBU v7.1 or upgrade client OS.

Please note that NetBackup Client Support for Mac OS X 10.5 ended with the NetBackup 7.5 release. Historically Apple's Mac OS X version support has been limited to its two most recent versions. NetBackup 7.5 does support Mac OS X version 10.6 forward. However, support for this Operating System can change if the market position or vendor support changes.

See page 9 ("Mac OS X 10.5" is equivalent to all 10.5.x, including 10.5.5)

Footnote 2 talks about support for 10.5 ending with 7.5.  This means whenever 7.6 comes out, it will not be supported on 10.5. | APPLBN | 761LBN

I dont want to upgrade client OS version.

Clinet OS: Mac OS 10.5.5

Cpu Architecture : Power

I succesfully installed netbackup version 7.0 on this client.

But backup failed with staus 49;client did not start.

Please let me know what needs to be done.

Can I try NBU 6.5.5 on this client.

If so please educate me on this.

What is your master server version? 

Upgrade rather than downgrade - NBU 6.x will reach EOSL on 3 Oct 2012.

NetBackup status code: 49

Message: client did not start

Explanation: The client failed to start up correctly.

Recommended Action: Do the following, as appropriate:

■ Make sure that software is installed on the client and it is the correct version.

If necessary, reinstall the client software.

■ Check for full file systems on the client.

■ Enable detailed debug logging on the client by doing one of the following:

■ Create bpcd and bpbkar (UNIX, Linux, and Windows only) debug log


■ On a UNIX or Linux client, add the VERBOSE option to the

/usr/openv/netbackup/bp.conf file.

■ On UNIX or Linux systems, use the UNIX sum command to check for corrupt

Hi Bharath,

I don't think the version of the NetBackup client is your problem here.

Make sure the Mac isn't part of backup attempts from a policy where Perform Snapshot Backups has been enabled (checked).

Make sure the Mac is part of a Standard type policy.

Make sure Encryption isn't enabled in the policy (unless you've generated a key for this Mac, but if it's a brand new client I am guessing you would not have!)

If the policy checks out, we'll probably need to look at some logs.

Does a telnet to port 13724 (or 13782) of your Mac succeed or fail? | APPLBN | 761LBN

Thanks a lot.

I have changed policy type to STANDARD.

And it worked.

As client is located in a remote place and has upto 1 TB of data to be backed up.

And is being backed over WAN. It would take take several days to weeks.

We need to have this backup to cpmplete within backup window(12hours)

Since we dont have option of deduplication @ client side in MAC OS enivronment.

Please come up with a solution other than seeding that would speed up the remote client backup.

Much appreciated if replied at the earliest.
