Hi,
We have been using BE 11D till last week, during this period, we got a compression ration of 3:1. Since last week we moved the server to a BE12.5 server and now i am getting a 5:1 compression ratio. My device is VS160 (80Gb Native) and Dell PV 124T Auto loader. My question is, while the hardware compression only copress 2:1, how come it is compressed 5:1 ratio? I also heard that, software compression will not be done once the hardware compression is done.

Anybody could explain this behavior of compression? My backed up files are oracle database.

Thanks for your inputs.

Also the compression will be more if you backup a very large number of small files as compare to backup of big database. If you backup a exchange edb and stm files, vedio, audio files then you will not get much compression.
It is recommended to use only any one type of compression
