Computer Inventory

Created: 11 Dec 2012 | 2 comments

Ok, so I am not sure where to start.  I have inherited this system and I am hacking away at figuring it out.

When the previous admins installed Altiris, they imported everything in as a CSV.  So everything shows up as a computer.

Everything.  All Asset Items.  Everything.  If I go to Mangage, Computers, I see very generic things like "apple iPad3" and "acer 21in monitor"

This makes me sad.  From what I understand, there is no easy way to change this short of some custom SQL hacking, which I do not have the chops for.  (at least not at this moment)

All I really want to do right now, is have Alteris Look at my Active Directory (a specified OU) and compare a list of machines in that OU, to its massive computer list.

I want to know what machines are active, and which machines in AD are missing Altiris clients.

What is the best way to get this info?  Think simple.  I'd love to solve all my issues inthe world, but baby steps first please.

Thanks

Jeremy

Actually, I just noticed that if I create a filter based on that OU, it list the IS Managed is set to 0 or 1.  So this is a good step.  Next to se if I can do some more work on with this list.  I am open to any ideas that anyone may have...

I'd like to find a way to export this filter to a Text or CSV file.

Start again? Create a new database. You could export your resources first and then correct the fields used to import them and import them correctly.
