    Already made  a image of a Windows XP Pro w/SP3 hard disk using Ghost Suite 2.5.  The image took 10 blank DVD+ disks.  The hard disk got viruses so trying to use the set of DVD's to reimage the hard disk.  On the 5th DVD getting a: Cannot open ghosterr.txt-please insert diskette (434) error.  I think the 5th DVD might have a flaw but I still wanted to try and complete the reimage so I used the "-fro" switch (ghost32 -fro) but still get the same error on the same DVD disk and cannot get past it.  I tried using Roxio Creator Suite v9 to make a DVD copy but it bombs.  I need to try and restore this image to the hard disk.  Any ideas?

    The only thing I can suggest is that you try one of the DVD recovery programs you can find on the internet.  Isobuster.com is a well established supplier of recovery software for optical media.

    Unfortunately DVD media is not always defect free, and although an immediate verify after write is OK, further down the line, the media just loses the data.  Always check the media surface in a good light and reject any disks that have visible defects (not that uncommon in cheap disks)

    I would recommend using a good quality (eg WD) external USB hard disk for storing critical images and maybe keep a backup copy on another hard disk. Storage is pretty cheap these days.

    Copy the image file including the spans to any machine where you have enough drive space.

    Try to open the image with Ghost Explorer,if the Ghost software is installed on the machine .

    Recompile the image file selecting File-->Compile, and restore the image either over the network or using an external USB

    Before trying the above step mentioned by Maneesh run the integrity check of the image file to make sure image file is not corrupted.

    start -> run -> ghost32.exe

    GUI local -> disk -> check file.

    Select the image file and check if it passes the check.

    If the O/P cannot make a copy of the affected DVD then it is unlikely that they will be able to copy the contents to a hard disk either, without at least attempting some form of recovery on the media.
