    Hi,

I have installed Symantec Brightmail™ Message Filter 6.1 on a Windows 2003 server to use as spam filter gateway.
I have created a Group Policy that contains *@customersdomain.com.

The SMTP server that responds is the Microsoft SMTP server, that is required when installing Message Filter.
When I try to deliver mail to the box, I always get 'Unable te relay'.

The server that the Message Filter server has to send the filtered mail to is up and running.

Did I miss something in the configuration?
Do I have to change something in the MSSMTP service?

    Kind regards,

    Arjan

    Hi,

The MS SMTP service is the one that relays the email. Did you add the "customersdomain.com" under "Domains"?

    Regards,

    Thanks

I added the domain and now the mail is accepted but it is dropped in the inetpub drop directory.
    What is going on?
Why is there no information about the configuration of the MS SMTP service in the Symantec manuals?

I am having the same issue. Did you figure out where the misconfiguration was?

    Hi,

here are some steps that may help:

Configure IIS for relaying mail (inbound) to the email server

1- Open IIS Manager and expand Default SMTP Virtual Server.
2- Right-click Domains > New Domain > Remote > type in the domain name of the organization for example test.com > Finish.
3- Select properties of that domain.
4- Check "Allow incoming mail to be relayed to this domain."
5- Click "Forward all mail to smart host" and type in the Fully Qualified Domain Name or IP in brackets of the mailbox server.
    6- Click OK.

The information is not included in the Symantec manual because SBMF does not relay the messages to the downstream server, in your case Microsoft's IIS does.
SBMF hooks to an MTA to work (IIS, Sendmail, Bizanga)

    Hope this helps.
