Hello everyone, after some trouble I got the Notification Server up and running yesterday and I thought I'd put this out there for anyone else who might have the same problem. I started on a new install of the IT Management Suite on a Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP2 OS running on a Hyper-V VM. The first time I tried to install I got an error saying "configuration failed see log for details". I checked the Log using the Altiris Log Viewer and found a log entries:

Description: [AeXSVC.exe:AeXSVC.exe] Unable to retrieve the list of registered mmfs as the security context is not ready.

I also found theses entries in my SIM install logs (C:\Documents and Settings\<user who did install>\Local Settings\Temp\SIM Logs\SIM <date time of SIM install attempt>):

These errors math up exactly with this KB article, however, I was already using the lastest version of SIM:

I tried a bunch of stuff that was unsuccessful and ended up just deleting the VM and starting over. This time I made sure to uninstall all versions of .NET higher than 2.0 before I started. I installed everything SIM wanted (inlcuding SQL Server 2005 Express) and tried again and got the same error. It was frustrating but I thought the problem might be with IIS so I uninstalled everything in SIM and tried uninstalling/reinstalling IIS. After that, the configuration would not complete before I reinstalled SQL Server 2005 Express. However, after all that the Notification Server finally installed. I don't know what changed or if this is even a repeatable fix for the problem, but I thought I put out here. If anyone knows more precisely what went wrong and how what I did fixed it, I would love to know.
