  • 1.  Configuring the DNS server in Messaging gateway appliance ?

    Hi,

Can anyone here please shed some light on this matter ?

I'm currently new in this company and just found out that the DNS settings on the Symantec Messaging Gateway is weirdly configured see below:

The current appliance is already working and running in the production DMZ network as a VMware appliance. Why is that the DNS value above is not enterred correctly and yet the email flow is working without any issue ?

So should I set the DNS in the three text box above or just leave it as is ?

One thing that I learn is that when configuring the NTP setting further below the screenshot above, it cause an outage to the appliance !!!

We in support have no idea what customer's SMGs should be using for DNS. That is something you need to decide. Most people provide both an internal DNS server and an external DNS server.

So why is that text box seems to be of no use ?

because it is clearly not our DNS server IP address there. SOmehow the appliance is working as normal.

the one's that are listed are google public DNS server IP's hence it's working.
