Configuring GUP in SEPM
Created: 23 Jan 2013 | 14 comments
Dear All,
I have 5 SEPM installed in my netwotk which manages the client based on Location and several Sub Groups under respective SEPM. Each Group is inherting the App and Dev Policy from its Parent Grroup.I would like to configure GUP in certain Groups of all SEPM based on Location. Request you to kindly help me in configuring the same. Lets consider a case where we have 5 sub groups inherting policies from a Parent Group. I would like to configure GUP to only 2 Groups of it.Is it Possible to do so or else we remove the inheritance and configure an Liveupdate POlicy.
Would Appreciate early response to this..
Thanks in advcane

HI,
Yes you need to remove inheritance and configure an Liveupdate Policy.

Quick summarize:
It won't be possible with the parent group inheritance in place - this needs to go and then you can assign a specific GUP Liveupdate Policy for these 2 groups, rest of the policies (ADC etc.) will stay the same as before and will be shared amongs the groups.
Agree with above comments. Remove the inheritence and configured the GUP Policy.

I agree with above comments. Do as follows.
Remove inheritance.
Go to polices on left side place.
Select the appropriate type of policy (App,Liveupdate etc..)
Then you will be able to see all the shared policies.
If you need, you can even create a new one as per your requirement.
Right click on the policy which you want to assign to some group -->click assign -->select the group(s) which you want to assign the policy and hit ok.
In this way you can assign same policy to multiple groups..
The disadvantage of this method will be some specific settings (e.g. password for uninstalling client software), if you need to change in future, you have to go to individual groups for doing it.
Please don't forget to mark your thread solved with whatever answer helped you : ) Thanks & Regards Aravind

You can check in on the client GUI directly - in the system Logs you should see entries about content downloaded from GUP. No possibility to see it in the SEPM console.
Yes you have to remove the inheritence and configured the GUP Policy on sepm server.
Agreed with above comments, Please do the above mention thing.

Dear Sebastianz,
I had checked in system event logs it shows virus definition was loaded successfully. It neither has any info saying updated from SEPM or from GUP.
Check the article
