Conflict between Altiris SVS and "Big Fix" (TEM)

  • 1.  Conflict between Altiris SVS and "Big Fix" (TEM)

    Posted May 02, 2011 10:23 AM

My organization has been using Altiris NS 6.5 for virtual software distribution.  We have Software Virtualization Soultion  2.1.3076.  Recently, the Desktop Security team has installed Tivoli Endpoint Management (formerly Big Fix) for patch management.  (I know, why aren't they using Altiris?) When a virtual package is sent to a PC it immediately loses communication with the TEM server.  Has anyone else seen this issue?  What is the conflict?  Is there a workaround?

    Thanks for your help,

I'm going to toss this one over the wall to the NS forum and see if anyone has any comments there.

I'll keep an eye on it...

However, I'm thinking that BigFix should be logging why the communication drops. The very nature of SVS, where the filter driver is installed and inserting\deleteing\modifying layers could be seen as suspicious to some managment and\or security programs.
