Connect and Protect Contest - video blog submission review

Created: 07 Jul 2009 • Updated: 09 Feb 2011 | 9 comments

Hi folks,

For those of you entering the contest (all the Symantec Employees who are members of this group are not eligible), I'd like to give you an overview of the video blog submission.  This info will also be avaialble in the "kit" you receive with the Flip Video cam, but just for reference:

1.  Max file size should be 250meg or less.
2.  Resolution should be 640 x 480
3.  Please save out and submit as a .mov file (.wmv may work, but our system can be finicky)
4.  Have a script (you're basically going to create a video of your original blog entry) and share the answers you provided.
5.  Consider having a host which can work with you to make it "conversational" in nature.
6.  Submit your video-blog to the Security Community, Video area.

let me know if you have any questions!

I look forward to seeing your blog entries, and hopefully giving you an opportunity to receive the Flip Cam and possible Grand Prize!

Best,

Eric

Hi folks,

AS you can imagine, the interest in this contest will probably be pretty significant - we only have a set number of Flip cams we can send to you.

Although this contest last for quite a while (September) I would suggest you begin considering answers to the questions, and possibly have a "draft word document" that you update.

The Kits will be sent on a first-come, first-serve basis.  So, I'd suggest getting your blog entry in "EARLY" to ensure your chances for receiving the kit/Flip cam.  Once they are gone, they are gone, and I'm expecting them to be all shipped well before the end of the contest!

Thanks for your interest, and I look forward to seeing your submissions!

Best,

Eric

Has there been any updates on this competition? I would love to know who is going through to round 2. Am I right to assume my submission won't be going through as I haven't heard anything?

Has this contest just died off? I'm very disappointed. There has been no respondance for weeks now.

Hope you are all well.  Please review the group page, where I indicated a few weeks back that  you would have received an email from me IF YOU WERE NOT moving onto the next round.

As you can imagine, with 17000 people at Symantec, and this contest being put togethrer by more than a couple people, there are some logistics we are working through to get everything shipped out.  Everyone on this particular thread is moving onto round 2.  I've been trying to finalize the date when the kits were being shipped, and they were "backed up" at the printer (the box).  I appreciate your patience, and regarding the dates, we may push out the submission date for your videos.

This is the first time we've done this particular contest, where we are shipping "kits" all over the planet, so just be patient, and you'll receive it.  I am trying to get the date the kits were or will be shipped.  Hang in there, I'll update the group page in the next day or two...

I'm assuming with the extra time, that you guys are going to have some TERRIFIC video submissions!

Best,

Eric

Thanks for the update Eric!  I can only imagine the logistical nightmare this contest is, being that it is the first.

Great work!
