Connect topics with FireFox v8.0.1
Updated: 25 Jan 2012 | 9 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.
Over the last week/10 days, when using FireFox v8.0.1 to view the topics in Connect, they are not listed when I am logged in. As soon as I sign off and return to the topics list, they are visible as normal. IE displays them whatever my logged-in status. I have never had this problem before and suspect that a code change - perhaps browser detection - in the period mentioned is causing the problem.

Hello,
Here are the latest changes made with the last code modification - https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/conn...
I am checking with the developers to see if others are experiencing this same issue with FF8.

Screen capture?
Hi VBScab,
Thanks for the feedback.
We have a number of topic lists on Connect. Can you provide a screen capture illustrating what topic list is broken when you view it?
Also, what operating system are you running?
Thanks,
Kevin
Thanks for the responses
I spend most of my time in the 'Endpoint Management/Wise Packaging' forum but I went wandering around at random fora and found that I have the problem with *all* topic lists.
OS is XP SP3.

How did you attach the screen capture
Thanks again VBScab.
It looks like there was a problem with you attachment in the previous post. Can you help us troubleshoot it by telling us how you attached the image?
Here's what it looked like in my notification email:
I just pasted with the clipboard...
...but nothing appeared on my screen and I saw no error message (I would expect some sort of "Inavlid content" message).
Anyway, I've posted the image on PhotoBucket

Thank you VBScab,
Thanks for the details on your image attachment. We either need to figure out how to leverage that functionality (allowing users to paste images into a message) or, like you suggested, disable it.
As far as the forums not rendering, we've been able to do some testing here in the office with Firefox 8.0.1 and then upgraded to Firefox 9.0.1 but were unable to reproduce the behavior you're reporting.
We are, however, seeing a few errors in the error log about a page load failing but we can't figure out why you would be the only person that pages don't load for.
We'll continue to investigate the errors we're finding in the log.

Bizarre...
Over the Christmas period, FF updated to v9.0.1 but the problem remains but only - annoyingly - for the forum I use almost exclusively, viz. 'Wise packaging'. This morning I have been to browse every other forum I've tried but, in spite of having rebooted twice, cleared the FF cache, tried in both new windows and new tabs, the 'Wise packaging' forum remains resolute in its refusal to display the topic list.
Could this be a cookie thing? I'm reluctant to remove all the cookies that FF lists for symantec.com but, if you were able to point me at specific ones connected with the forum in question, I'd be happy to remove it and re-try.

Remove www-secure.symantec.com cookie
I sometimes too experience this problem using FF 8.0. I then remove www-secure.symantec.com cookie and life is good again!

Handy NBU links
I haven't been posting for a few weeks...
...but, this morning, posted a reply in 'Wise packaging' forum and, after submission, voilá! I can see the topic lists as before.
