  • 1.  Connecting Linux AV to SEPM on windows

    Posted Apr 15, 2015 07:38 AM

I am checking the possibility of managing the Stand alone SEP installation on RHEL 6.2 machines from SEPM instaled on Windows server 2008. Earlier there was no way that you can manage the Linux SEP client through SEPM. Now after newer version of RU5 there is a functionality of managing the Linux installation from SEPM.  I wanted to check if there is a way of making the old SEP client installed on lLinux machine communicate to the latest SEPM without going through the process of uninstall and re-install. I do not want to remove the old installation from linux machine and replace it with the latest client exported using SEPM. Is there a way of making the old SAVFL communiacte to the latest SEPM.

    Revert ASAP.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community & I would be glad to answer your query.

    Q. Is there a way of making the old SAVFL communiacte to the latest SEPM.

--> Not possible, as you know it's started from SEP 12.1 RU5 onwards only.

    ok,

Q1:- The clients running on Linux System is 12.1.2 and are unmanaged clients. So ideally there is not way that i can make this client communicate to latest SEPM even by replacing the SYLINK.xml file on the client.?

Q2:- what if i upgrade the clients from 12.1.2 to 12.1.5 and then replace the SYLINK.xml file, will this help? Also just wanted to check will upgrading change any settings manually made on the old linux client.?

SEP for Linux 12.1.5 is the only version which can report to the SEPM. With all other versions this will not be possible.

    Just install a managed version

How to install Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.5 on supported Linux operating systems

If you had any custom user settings, the server settings would overwrite them.

--> No, there isn't any way to achieve it.

--> Upgrade is not supported becasue this is the first time SEP is introduced to Linux machine, previously it was SAVFL. Are there any specific setting you looking for to retain them?

what if I install an unmanaged 12.1.5 SEP client for Linux  removing the old client and then change the SYLINK.xml file, hope the new install will then report to SEPM.
