  • 1.  Connection to [exchange server] timed out... ?

    Posted Oct 14, 2008 10:25 PM

Just installed 7.7 on VMWare ESX, trying to test the first server. I have experience using Mail for SMTP (similar product for Windows/Linux).  While testing with I can push an email in via telnet on port 25 but the email never makes to my exchange (2000) server. The mail queue (delivery) reports the error (connect to host.domain.local [192.168.100.113]: Connection timed out)

I can ssh to the appliance and telnet with 192.168.100.113 and push an email directly (this is my exchange server).

What gives? Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,

Do you have any restrictions set on Exchange as to what IP addresses can communicate with it?

In the web UI, through Scanners (left hand system menu) and then click the scanner name followed by Configure Scanner.  On the SMTP tab, under Outbound Mail Settings, have you allowed Exchange to recieve mail from the IP bound to the interface shown there?

It's been a while (long while) since I looked at Exchange 2000 but I think you can restrict connecting IPs via the IIS SMTP properties.

Let me know if that helps.
