Console showing the latest signature version.

  • 1.  Console showing the latest signature version.

    Posted May 14, 2009 07:40 AM
In the console HOME screen, top left, it shows:

    Virus defs...
Latest Symantec Version: 2009-05-13 rev. 040
Latest Manager Version: 2009-05-13 rev. 020

This is great, but for IPS signatures:
Latest Manager Version: 2009-05-11 rev. 001

It doesn't show the "Latest Symantec Version": WHY???

and it doesn't even list PTP signature information. WHY???

Is there a page on symantec's website that lists the latest signature dates. I've seen the one's for virus signatures, but not the others.

    Thanks

By default. IPS Signature not updated everyday. I have the same Signature still now.

When you say PTP isn't listing the signature of the def, does it say "waiting for updates", or is it simply  not listed?

I know the IPS signatures aren't released everyday.

    Shaun_b,
I'm saying in the home screen, top-right drop down, there is no listing for PTP signatures.

The point I'm trying to make is that for IPS signatures, it should show the latest symantec version (just like it does for virus defs)
and PTP signature information should also be listed in the dropdown.

So, anyone aware of a dated listing of the latest PTP and IPS signatures on symantec's website?

    Hi,

"Latest Symantec Version" for IPS signatures version does not show in the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager. As rightly said one of the reason is that the IPS signatures are not updated on a frequent basis.

At this time, there is no direct way to verify that the IPS signatures currently downloaded by the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager are the latest version available.

An indirect way to check this would be to check the LiveUpdate downloads that the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager has performed:

    1. Open the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager
    2. Click Admin on the left
    3. Click Servers at the bottom left corner
    4. Under View Servers, select Local Site (Site <your site>)
    5. Under Tasks, click Show LiveUpdate Downloads

This window will display the last time IPS updates, or any other updates, were downloaded by LiveUpdate.

Doing all the steps you mentioned only shows you what's the latest version that the SEPM downloaded. If you have a problem with the downloads, obviously this is not going to help.

I'm just looking for a simple webpage that shows you what the latest IPS and PTP signatures are.
(like how it shows you what the latest virus signatures are)

Yes, there are two webpages where you can check the latest release of IPS and PTP signatures.
Frankly, I am not in the office and I don't have time to search them right now but a lot of users already asked for them in this forum and the links were provided. Search deeply.

Well, I searched for 30 minutes just now, and I wasn't able to find it. Maybe I'm not using the right search terms.
So if someone is kind enough to tell me where this webpage is, I would appreciate it.

    Thank You

The IPS signature date can't be accurate. All my systems have a IPS sig date of 5/11. Yet, the page says 5/13.

    bjohn,

The posting date is 5/13, but look at the def ID: 20090511.001 which tells me it's dated 5/11/2009

    Thanks Rick, that make sense.

Now, I just need to know where Symantec lists the latest PTP signatures.

@bjohn: PTP Does not update as often as AV signature files.
