  • 1.  Console thinks Machine is a VM

    Posted Aug 11, 2014 09:50 AM

We have a few computers that appear in our SMP console which show up as a virtual machine when they are actual physical computers. The icon is that of a VM but all of the information about the asset is that of either a laptop or a desktop. The biggest issue with this is that we need to do some merges for asset management and can't becuase the devices are different. Is there anyway to convert the machine from VM to physical? What would cause this in the first place?

I've seen that one and unfortunately it didn't help at all.

    Hi!

Could you please provide more info:

Does this managed endpoint previously was as physical and after it has became as VM?

Or it has incorrect type of managed endpoint from the begining, when Symantec Management Agent was installed?

If to check "Resource Manager" for this client PC and open "Summaries" - "Asset Summary" -> Asset type is shown as Virtual as well?

I'm not sure that it will makes sense, but what about to delete this managed endpoint on NS server from Console and retrieve a new GUID via next policy refresh, on this deleted managed endpoint?

Deletion and new GUID receiving, should update appropriate SQL tables per this client PC. (Of course if you have ability to delete this client PC)

    Computer Resource Type - ‘RM_ResourceComputer
    Virtual machine Type –RM_ResourceVirtual_Computer
Both Computer and Virtual machines -vResourceItem
    Thanks,
    IP.

I think that was it. For some reason the asset was put in as a VM! I don't know why I didn't look there first.

    Thanks!
