Virtual Secure Web Gateway

Hi,

I work for a small social enterprise and we have an up to date subscription on the Symantec Enterprise Protection Suite which includes SWG.

The Symantec suite was implemented prior to me joining the business but the SWG product has never been used.

I am thinking of installing it to provide further protection to our internal network computers as we do not currently use a web proxy.

I was planning on using a spare i5 laptop running the free vmware hypervisor as the host for the virtual Appliance.

Can anyone forsee any issues with this approach?

I have around 20 users.

Even though the product is EOL, you can still purchase the URL Add-on until June 6th. The Web Gateway is a pretty easy to use appliance. I don't know that you will get very good performance on a laptop. Keep in mind that one of the system requirements is that Hardware Virtualization be enabled. It doesn't look like i5 is listed on the list VMWare provides:
