Raynet will be releasing a new major version of its packaging tool, RayPack 2.0, this summer, and one of its features will be its own scripting engine, called RayScripting. 

In order to make it easier for existing Wise Script customers, RayScripting will have the ability to import Wise Scripts and then convert them into RayPack project files so that they can then be turned into a MSI, SWV, etc package. 

As RayScripting is still in its alpha stage, we would be very interested in finding out from the existng Wise Script customer base how they would like to see their Wise Scripts converted, so if you have any ideas on this subject, please add your comment to this blog, or contact me directly.

One of the great features of Wisescript is that it could be used outside of the packaging environment to write various utilities. The code could be compiled into a small EXE and needed no additional runtimes.

Will the RayScript implementation allow this ?

Wisescript was also traditionally a 32 bit product but some 64 bit features were added into the WPS8 MR1 product albeit alongside a host of bugs.  Will Rayscript offer a full 64 bit implementation ?

Yet another aspect of Wisescript is that it could act as a standalone scripted installer as well as being useable to create custom actions.  Is the intention for Rayscript to implement both these features?

I'm throwing out these functional options to help users determine which aspects are the most important to them...

Those three points are on our feature list for RayScript; however, as we are still in the concept phase we cannot say for sure that they will be part of the first release at this moment in time, so I will keep you posted. 

To all, as we are still at the development stage, your input is most appreciated as we obviously would like to produce a viable and wanted tool right off the bat.

WiseScript is still actively supported and additional licenses can be purchased from Flexera Software.  The Flexera releases of WiseScript has corrected the x64 bugs found in WiseScript from WPS 8 MR1. 

You will see a new release of AdminStudio coming very soon which enables those who have purchased WiseScript from Flexera to run WiseScript custom actions from InstallShield for AdminStudio.  This includes the ability to use WiseScript's Get and Set Windows Installer properties.

We're also bringing that same ability to get and set windows installer properties to PowerShell custom actions with this new release for those looking at alternative scripting technologies.

Do you know what version of AdminStudio this new release will be known by?

Also, do you not mean "Installshield for Symantec" rather than "Installshield for Adminstudio" as the latter sounds rather dumb, like Windows for Microsoft.

The new release is known as "AdminStudio 2015", which debuted on July 28, 2015.  And "InstallShield for AdminStudio" is accurate (it is also known as InstallShield AdminStudio Edition).  What it means is that any customer that directly purchases InstallShield (but not AdminStudio) will not have the WiseScript integration capabilities.  Only the "AdminStudio edition" of InstallShield has the WiseScript integration feature.

Note: The WiseScript package editor is not included with AdminStudio.  It is a seperate product.  AdminStudio customers can purchase new licenses of WiseScript.
