This issue has been solved. See solution.

I try to convert a managed client to unmanaged by doing the following

1) smc -stop

2) replace the sylink.xml in the SEP installation directory with the one on the CD.

3) smc -start

The link to the SEPM seems to be broken as the yellow shield is without the green dot.  However, the LiveUpdate button on the SEP window is grayed out.  When I move the mouse over it I get a text box saying "Your administrator has locked this feature."  How do I unlock LiveUpdate?

Is there an easier way to convert a managed client to unmanaged?

Try this...

Try this...

If Liveupdate button is greyed out even after replacing sylink. Change the Registry value mentioned below..

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\LiveUpdate

AllowManualLiveUpdate 0- means liveupdate button will be greyed out. 1-means it will be available to click.

Hope this will help u...

For
replasing sylink remotely you can use following article

Still i would stay eaiset way

Still i would stay eaiset way would be simply un-install Managed then install Unmanaged.
However you can also follow the reg. tweaks from the article above.
