We are supporting a customer who is running Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 10.1 which is past EOL, however current virus definition updates downloaded from Symantec web site still seem to work. Please clarify so we can explain this to the customer. Thank you.

if you are not paid customer for the extension of definition, you will not be notified of definition removed from ftp or supported

Are there any options if I am unable to upgrade before the EOSL date?

Yes. For a fee, virus definitions and a Partial Support period can be made available for up to 12 months past the EOSL. Contact your Symantec account representative for more details

    Hello,

There is no confirmed date set on when would the SAV 10 definitions would stop getting created. If the Extension is purchased for the term of 12 months term then it is assured you to receive the definitions for 12 months.

The Virus definitions are also available on the Symantec site for Manual download.

However, as far as I understand these definitions are not available after the EOSL date from Symantec Liveupdate server unless you make a request for the definitions extension.

Have you applied for Extension to the virus definitions?

How to request a virus definition extension for Symantec AntiVirus 10.x Corporate Edition beyond its End-of-Support-Life date

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO73168

Extensions will be available for 1, 3, 6, 9, or 12 month terms starting at the EOSL date.

    Hope that helps!!

    Hi Mll817,

I recommend that you definitely advise that customer to upgrade to SEP straight away.  Unless they have paid for a contract extension, they are legally not covered for SAV 10 definitions.  Those definitions can be discontinued at any time or stop working on all equipment (as happened with SAV 9), leaving them with a network undefended against the thousands of new threats seen in the wild every day.  Be prepared and ensure their network and itsdata is defended by a modern product which is going to work today, tomorrow, next month, etc.

    Hope this helps!

    Mick

    Hi MII817,

What does End of Support Life (EOSL) mean for Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition (SAV CE) 10.x customers?

EOSL means that technical support will no longer be provided for SAV CE 10.x.  All support services, including without limitation, virus definition updates, bug fixes/patches and engineering modification, for SAV CE 10.x will end on the EOSL date.
