Corporate Edition disk space usage

Created: 17 Nov 2007 • Updated: 21 May 2010 | 6 comments
I recently noticed that my symantec antivirus corporate edition 10.1 is using up alot of disk space, much more than I believe it is supposed to, as it was only like a 60MB download.  It uses over 3GB of space.  There are a few very large files of 500-1000 MB each with random number names, such a 000000102 in my symantec folder.  Is this high disk space usage normal, or is any way to  reduce this excessive disk space usage?  I don't want to just delete any files because I am worried it will make my antivirus stop working correctly.  My hard disk is only ~7GB total, so this high space usage is very significant for me.  Any assitance is appreciated, thank you.

This does not sound like normal behaviour. It is normal during a manual or scheduled scan for SAV CE to cache temporary files on the disk, but these should then be cleaned up afterward.
Could you confirm:
- The exact directory you see these temp files appear in?
- What file extension they have, if any?
- If you sort the files by last date modified, when did they last appear? Was it around the time of a scheduled or manual scan?
- What is the exact version of SAV CE that you are running (full numbered version). If you open the local user interface, you should see the version listed there.

The files are located in the following directory: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition\7.5.
The files do not have an extension; They are simply listed as "File" in the "file type" description.  The files were all created about 6 months ago; Two of the 500MB files were created within 3min of each other. The times listed do not appear to coincide with any scans, but I could be wrong since it was so long ago.  My SAV CE version is with scan engine, if these are the numbers you needed.
Let me know if any additional information is required, thank you for the help.'s picture

I have the same problem: files in this directory are taking up ~25 GB of space on my PC.  Was this ever solved???

I am using Symantec Endpoint Protection Version: 11.0.2010.25.

Thank you.

Hi, there was a fix in the later release which solve the temporary files issue. You should try out the latest fixed.

Acctually, depending on the files you might still get these files.

We have had a customer SEP install that produced these errors on large rar and zip files; The solution that was provided at the time was to add exceptions (as it was mainly MQ Install Cabs). SEP was on MR4 at the time. There have been a few cases here on the boards also.
