This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi

- Is netbackup 7.5 support backup to go through SAN only without using LAN connectivity.and use the LAN only for verification or monitoring the proccesses specially for virtualization (VMware and Hyprev)?

Is restore and GRT restore can be done completely done using only SAN for VMware and Hyper v?

Please Advice how it can be managed such way.

Regards,

You can do it for backup as below

  • Configure your Media Server or SAN Media Server or SAN Client as VMware Backup Host, and select san transport for VMware backup.
  • Configure Hyper-V host as Media Server, SAN Media Server, or SAN Client.

You can recovery VM through SAN, but other restore option like file level restore, DB backups, or GRT can not go through SAN. Such sort of restore operation requires LAN.

Appreciate your response.

You can recovery VM through SAN, but other restore option like file level restore, DB backups, or GRT can not go through SAN. Such sort of restore operation requires LAN.

Is this for both VMware GRT restore and HyperV? or only HyperV?

and this mean that there are alot of limitatation using the SAN transport only for backup and restore!! or in different words this is impossible to use SAN only!!

As I know the snapshot will be created only using LAN through vcenter or ESX hosts.so we always will need the LAN

Please more details if possible

Yes for both.

You can backup and recover through SAN at VM level. But other sort of restore operation requires client processing. When client works for restore, data travels through LAN.
