A couple of quick questions
Updated: 22 May 2010 | 3 comments
I. Will GSS work on Server 2008? Any down sides or issues we need to be aware of?
2. Will it run on the 64 bit version of 2008?
3. Any idea if ghost will include the ability to include other "virtual" filesystems. That's probably not the right way to phrase the question. :) I love being able to convert a gho to a vmdk and vise-vera. Will you guys be adding Hpyer-V and Xen VMs also? (please!!!!)
Thanks,

Presuming that you're asking about the GSS console specifically, it'll run on Server 2008 just fine; out of the box it's hard to do mapped network drives from clients or domain joining against Server 2008 ADs because the Security Policy defaults are very restrictive, but at worst you'd need to tweak a couple settings.
Yup. Not really any special issues with 64-bit versions of Windows in the last couple releases.
In principle, I agree it'd be nice. In practice, like all potential new features it's something that our Product Manager has to weigh and evaluate against all the other nice things we could be doing with the time, people and budget we have. The bottom line is that we can't really speak to specific future features like that until we're really close to release.
Thanks Nigel.
Tell your product manager that adding support for Hyper-V & Xen would make GSS the ultimate P2V software. ...even if it's not true, it will sound good to everyone in marketing. ;)
...and that's really what matters, right?
Ha.
Enjoy your weekend.
I guess while we're on the subject of P2V and what not. Here's what we did to avoid the long command lines:
Adding scripted shortcuts to convert & integrity check has been a huge time saver. This should be easy to integrate into the product. Maybe you could have a"ghost" section like 7-zip and then have more common and customizable options on the next menu. Just another silly idea.
Cheers!
