CPS 12.5 Won't Save Backup Selections for a Single Remote Server
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 4 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.
A strange issue where the CPS console won't save file selections for a single remote server. I've tried creating a new test job to see if it was related to the job to no avail. I can open up the job properties, select the shares and files I want to back up, click "OK", and nothing is saved. I'm not sure if it's on the agent or the server end.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Hi arrow, is your job running
Hi arrow, is your job running without errors? What happens if you take a snap shot?
Job are running without
Job are running without errors (no pairs are shown for the server in question due to no selections being saved). Snapshots are creating and retaining properly as well.

The problem seemed to be related to an agent that wouldn't start properly. I was receiving the following error in the application even log when trying to start the CPS Agent service:
From Scott at Symantec Enterprise Support:
Permissions must be granted at the root level of the drive e.g. C:\ or D:\, not just to the VSR directory on that drive. This is particularly relevant in situations where VSR is installed in non-default locations, and where the default Windows NTFS permissions have been modified.
Scott's suggestion was correct. I added explicit read permissions to the root of each drive for the CPS service account, and the service started properly. With the agent service running, the selection list saved properly and the job started.
