CPS 2010 with deduplication?

Created: 26 Mar 2010 • Updated: 29 Sep 2010 | 2 comments

Does anyone know if it is possible to have the CPS protection server perform its backups to a deduplicated store on a Backup Exec media server?

We are looking at protecting several large file servers with the CPS feature but ideally would like this data to be deduped within the CPS protection server(s) before we then perofrm backups to disk/tape with Backup Exec.  I have not used CPS as yet and have had only a quick look at it but was hoping to utilise some of the newer features of 2010 (deduplication in Backup Exec) to get better disk utilisation for data retention etc.
Our aim is to have 2 or 3 file servers (or more if dedupe is possible) being protected by CPS server and for these backups to be on a deduped storage and then to perform additional backups to tape from Backup Exec of daily/weekly backups.

If anyone has any thoughts about achieving this or if this is not possible it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

Not possible.

You want to dedupe the CPS data, you'll have to save to a Dedupe appliance.

There is an online portal, save yourself the long hold times. Create ticket online, then call in with ticket # in hand :-) http://mysupport.symantec.com "We backup data to restore, we don't backup data just to back it up."

Ok thanks, will have to look to just deduping the backup exec backup sets only then.
