CPS and Deleted files

I have been evaluating BE 11d CPS to see if it can provide the reported file version recovery that we would like.  Currently we have it configured to run continuously to copy over changes as soon as they happen.  This way we are able to restore a file that was change only a few hours previous.  However, I find that most of my requests to restore a file are because someone accidentally deleted the file rather than over writing it.  From what I can tell so far, CPS does not protect a file once it has been deleted and therefore cannot be restored from CPS.

Is this correct or am I missing a configuration step?

If CPS does not provide protection for deleted files,  what would be the best solution to accomplish this?  My goal is to have in place a system that does backup to disk to tape to improve the backup window and provide the ability to restore to any version of a file present within the last 7 - 10 days, with minimal interruption to running productions systems during normal business hours.

When running a continuous job, CPS maintains an exact replica of the protected source, and if the file is deleted on the source, it will also be deleted on the target.

Wanting the ability to restore to any version of a file present within the last 7 - 10 days, will be almost impossible, due to the job running continuously.  You might benefit from setting up your job to run according to a schedule, then schedule to run snapshots of your "Backup Destination" and finally you could use Backup Exec to backup the "Snapshots" created, as the OS will start to automatically deleting snapshots when the "Total number of Snapshots" have reached 64.

I have included a couple of very good technote links, that should enable you in setting up a "schedule" that fits your specific needs.

Backup Exec Continuous Protection Server (CPS) Snapshots are being deleted by Windows 2003 before reaching the age at which CPS will automatically delete them.

What are the Backup Exec Continuous Protection Server (CPS) components that are displayed in Backup Exec for Windows Servers?
