Create Firewall Rule to allow WMI for MS VAMT access on clients
Created: 21 Jun 2011 | Updated: 22 Jun 2011 | 3 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.
I need to allow WMI access on the domain so that Microsoft Volume Activation Management Tool (VAMT) can get through to the clients. VAMT help file refers to ticking the WMI box for Domain under the Windows Firewall settings, however if these settings are controlled by SEP we need to then create a rule or amend the settings on the SEP management console.
How do I create a rule that will allow WMI access for VAMT on the network?
Thanks.

Im not sure of any such rule listed in sepm firewall policy,
can you check the logs if any of the rule which is blocking the connection?

On second thought I'm sure this is going to have to be done via group policy, if there is no obvious way via SEPM.
I can still get into the firewall settings on the clients by going into Advanced and enabling WMI - I had thought SEP locked it down completely but no.
Yes, in earlier versions it would say the firewall settings are controlled by SEP in vista, now that issue is resolved, You can use the GPO to get it done, nothing is from SEP end :)
