Create Multiple Jobs for One Server

Created: 03 Mar 2014 • Updated: 04 Mar 2014 | 3 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

We are implementing BE2012 moving from 12.5. In our current environment we have seperate jobs for the same server to be able to backup the partitions seperately, concurrently. For example -

Job 1 - Server1 - C Drive

Job 2 - Server1 - D Drive

Job 3 - Server1 - E Drive

This way we can backup the larger file servers using multiple jobs and concurrently.

With the BE2012 it is more server centric and I cannot see how to accomplish this same thing.

Anyone do this?

Thanks.

Hello,

are you backing up to disk or to tape?

just to make sure I understand: are you wanting to backup 1 server with serveral jobs at once?  This should be possible but there is the issue of resource contention.

You might also be able to use groups to help simplify this.   http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH189098

In the Backup and Restore tab, click on the server and create a backup job.  You would be presented with a resource selection list.  You can then select/deselect the resource that you want for the job.  This part is the same as with older versions of BE.  You would have to repeat this for each of your drive.

Note that by backing up each drive separately, you would not be able to use SDR to restore your server.

Thank you for your responses! This BE2012 is very different!
