How can I force an endpoint to start a Patch check to see if any vulnerabilities exist on the machine?

Can I be specific also like do a Adobe Vulnerability analysis?

I would like to be able to do this via a task not a policy so I can control easier who gets that specific analysis instead of affecting everyone by modifing the policy.

Patch Management Solution 7.1 SP1 has both a System Assessment Scan policy and a newly added System Assessment Scan task, which is designed to run the System Assessment Scan on a single computer or small group of computers in cases where the results need to collected quickly.  Neither the System Assessment Scan policy nor the System Assessment Scan task provide a means to limit the scan to particular vendors or software.

    Patch Management Solution 7.1

Problem is I can't update to SMP 7.1 I'm stuck on SMP 7.0 MR4 and at the latest version for patch SP2 MR4.

There has to be a command I can issue on the client via a batch or something that would do this.

    Use AeXPatchUtil.exe:
    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO9770

The command is AeXPatchUtil.exe /Xa   This forces the computer to begin its update cycle immediately.

    Does this answer your question?

    mclemson,

What is an inventory /l for Patch Management?

is there a difference between the software update cycle and a vulnerability analysis

Hm, already replied to this a few weeks ago.  /i forces a patch inventory

A software update cycle is the actual update process -- installing the patches.

Vulnerability analysis is the same thing as the inventory.

Thanks for clearing that up as this answers my question.

So basically if I do a software update cycle it will force the install of the update at that moment instead of waiting for the schedule defined by the update policy.
