Created SEP 12 install package, cannot install on Win 8, but can install on Win XP

    Hello,

If we install SEP 12 on Win 8 from the CD, then it works.

But when we create SEP 12 install packages from the SEPM console, but they cannot install on Win 8. However, they can install on Win XP, 64-bit.

We tried running cleanwipe, and then reinstalling, but this keeps happening.

Are there some workarounds to install a SEP 12 package we created from SEPM console onto Win 8?

What is the exact version of SEP?

You can post the SEP_INST.log file from the failed Win8 install. Was it fully patched compared to the one that installed?

This may be a known issue per this KB article but since it sounds like got it installed once, it may not apply. Still you can try the workaround to see what happens.

Try disabling Windows Defender and remove KB2781197 and try the install again.

    hi,

    Can you post  SEP_INST.log.

I think that is not a known issue because if patch issue any sep client not install windows 8.

SEP installs fine on Windows 8 if KB2781197 is not installed. If patched, than this is where it fails. Which is why I asked in my first post.

It wasn't specified if it was the same machine. My assumption is it is two different machines, one possibly patched with the KB that causes an issue and another that may not have this patch.

I'm not arguing about it because more info is needed. I simply posted the know issue KB article as an fyi as well as asked for the SEP_INST.log file (as did you). I try to troubleshoot based on what info is given.

And of course, the basics: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH174348

Please confirm you're trying to install RU2 or later smiley (i.e. the SEPM has the RU2 client to export).

    #EDIT#

Oh yeah, assuming you're attempting to use the CDW to push the SEP install, have you gone through the below steps to prepare teh client machines to receive the push install?
    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO80805

Prepare Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 computers

Before you deploy, perform the following tasks:

    • Disable the Windows Firewall.

    • Create the registry key LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy. For more information, visit the following URL:

      http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942817

    • Enable and start the Remote Registry service.

Just FYI, it was the below article that led me there, does it apply?

Check the UAC Settings of Windows 8 and set it to low level then try to install again the SEP.

    Hi

If the Windows 8 system is patched with Security patches it will not install as this is the known issue.

    Regards
