Creating a Bootable CD for recovery

Hi all,
I am still new to this.  I was talking to one of my co-worker and he said that you can create a Bootable Windows CD, so that you can run the restore.  I started looking in the software, all I see about creating a bootable CD is the Intelligent Disaster Recovery(IDR) wizard.  I am running Server 2008, and most of the machines I am backing up is running Windows XP.  So I am confused about the IDR, is it going to create a bootable image of the server 2008?  Or what is it going to?  Is it possible for one to create a bootable CD with the remote agent installed on the barebone XP?  Last, is the boot CD machine specific, or it can be used as a universal boot CD.

If yes, then what should I do to reach that?
I am running Backup Exec 12.5.

Thank you so much for the help.

Solution

IDR is to automate the recovery process.  It is part of the basic BE 12.5 but it needs to be enabled.  To see if it is, go to Help ---> About ..  --> LIcense Information.  If it is not installed, you can install it by going to Change/Remove Programs, change BE and then checking the IDR option.

The first backup after you have installed the IDR will create a .DR file for each machine that you have backed up.  This .DR will tell BE which backup set to use during the restore.

When you use the IDR Wizard to create a bootable disk for the particular machine, it will create a bootable disk with an OS similar to that machine and the .DR file for that machine.  For machines with similar OS'es, the IDR disks will be the same except for the .DR file.  You can use one disk for all machines with similar OS'es, but during the actual recovery process, you need to be able to select the appropriate .DR file.
