Creating a ghost image that doesn't span

Created: 25 Jul 2012 | 2 comments

I have an xp machine I want to ghost but everytime I try it wants to span to multiple ghost files. I boot the machine to winpe and map some drives to file shares. I start ghost32 and unselect SPAN and use -z9 as the compression level. I select Partition-To-Image and let it go. It creates a file of size 2,097,144 KB and then wants to create another one. How can I just create one file?

The file shares are NTFS and ghost ver is 11.

As far as I recall, you cannot do this over a network as Ghost always assumes worst case and does not create single files greater than 2Gb.  If you want a single span, you need to do it to a locally connected hard disk, ie a second hard disk on your system or a USB- connected external drive.

The only way you will be able to create a single image file is by capturing the image through your machine with the Hard Disk attached. Network will always create multiples 2gb image files. ..
