I am having a problem with creating a custom installation package (single file exe). The progress bar stops at about 1/3 of the way complete. If I try using an msi file instead, it still doesn't complete. This occurs locally on the management server or if I login via the remote console.

    Package Details:

    • Windows - Symantec Endpoint Protection version 12.1.671.4971
    • Group: My Company\Default Group
    • Install Feature Sets: Full Protection for Clients (I have tried others with same results)
    • Install Settings: Interactive (I have also tried Default Client Installation Settings)
    • Content Options: All content (I have tried Basic also)
    • Preferred Mode: Computer Mode
    • Save Package is the preferred installation method
    • Single .exe file. (I have tried using my existing shared folder and have created a new folder)

    Server Details:

    • Windows 2003 R2 server.
    • 4 GB RAM
    • 10 GB free
    • Server is virtualized

I recently upgraded the Symantec Manager from version 11.0.5002.333.  I was able to create installation packages previously without any problem on this same server.

Any help with this will be much appreciated!

    Hello,

    Try these steps:

    1) Close the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager

    2) Go to services.msc and stop the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Services.

    3) Close the Services window

    4) Browse to : C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\bin

    5) Run the upgrade.bat

    6) Follow the steps.

    7) Login to SEPM again and try exporting the packages again.

When you are taking a Remote Desktop, is that in Console mode??

    Check this Article:

How to install or manage Symantec AntiVirus and Symantec Endpoint Protection components through Remote Desktop

    Hope that helps!!

    Hi,

You can try with following options

    1) Repair SEPM from add/remove programs.

    2) Disable Enhanced Security if it is enabled.

    3) Turn off protection mode if it is ON.

If these steps didn't help then there might be permission issue.

I agree as that helped me once.

Thank you very much everyone.  Pete's post made me realize my mistake. I went to upload the sep_inst.log and found that the file was old.  I had upgraded the Symantec Manager, but not yet had upgraded the Symantec Client on the Management server. I upgraded the client and now my installation package completes successfully.

    Have a good weekend!

JR71 - thanks for returning to post your findings.  I was having the exact same issue but was reluctant to run the upgrade.bat file and potentially corrupt my SEPM and/or database.

Upgrading the client on the SEPM allowed the package export to complete successfully.

    Thanks again!!!
