Hi,

Is there any good documentation for creating filters and reports with the new 7.0 NS.  I was very good at creating reports and collecitons with the old 6.X NS, but this new way in 7.0 is different.

What were they thinking when it comes to reports?

As I get more involved with NS 7.0 the more i  get dissapointed. While I am extremly happy that they patch Adobe ... the reporting is horrible.

I give a computer summary every month to our security office and now that computer summary report is in the cross platform folder.

Important items missing from the report.

IP address

System Type (professional or home, etc)

Format (NTFS or FAT)
Plus it is missing subnet, gateway and other information.

Size of the Hard Drive is reporting differently than before (it is only giving a two digit number. The main thing I need is free space which is reporting ok).

Also I can't find any report that gives an IP address?

An Ip address or subnet is how I sort the machines and send the reports to different departments.

I can't believe how symantec has gutted all the previous reports in 6.X

There currently aren't any

posted schema or report writing documents out there. I'd have to dig it up, but it is possible to query the SQL DB for the schema, but that doesn't necessarily help you in creating (and relating tables) new reports. That stuff took awhile in NS6, so I'm sure it's on the roadmap to get released.

There are other options for reporting. Using SQL Reporting Services (free) or purchaing IT Analytics (not free).

Just some suggestions.

Altiris KB49158 is a feature request for the schema publication for v7. I recommend subscribing to it, to help highlight it's importance.

Is SQL Reporting Services

Is SQL Reporting Services friendly?

How much Sql programming to you have to know?

Is there another agent you have to install or does it just query the sql datatbase?

I haven't used it much

however it's a component you add to the SQL instance itself.  I saw some great stuff during a user group from Networkchic (one of the community here as well), which was very well done. Since my role involves more around implementing, and less around steady state, I haven't had the chance to really dive into it. I'm sure there are plenty of example out there.

In fact, It Analytics uses some that functionality (not sure to what degree) with their program.
