Creating Tasks/Jobs and using Altiris created tasks.

I am trying to figure out how to set up and use the Task Server functions.

I want to be able to change asset status based on criteria I set up. (example: set asset status to missing if not seen on network in 60 days) And I would prefer not to re-invent the wheel.

I can see in the View > Configuration > Server Settings > Notification Server Settings > Item tasks section, (Console 6.5/NS 6.0.6074) many things that I would call tasks based on the icon that represents them. But I can't get to them or use them in that manner. Does anyone know what the deal is?

At this point, based on what I can tell, I am going to have to build all the tasks nessasary for this and roll them into jobs. But I am really surprised that there aren't some of them already done. I feel like I am missing something.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom or a great resource for info on creating tasks and jobs?? (I have read and worked with the Altiris Task Server doumentation...and found it limitedly helpful)

Thanks,

Gina

These are Notification Server tasks. When you right-click on a resource, you'll see these "Item Tasks". These are different from the Tasks under Task Server. Those tasks are located under the Tasks tab\Task Management. Take a look there check out a couple of the sample tasks. They are pretty easy to create. You just have to setup a task server (you can use the NS for this if you are under 500 clients). Anything more than this is too much for the NS. There is some good documentation here http://www.altiris.com/Support/Documentation.aspx under Task Server.
