Cumulative Incremental backup schedule is run as a Full backup

Created: 20 Jul 2012 | 5 comments

Hi All,

One of my netbackup client F drive differential backup is running as a full backup and rest of drive backup are fine. I checked & did not found any error message on client log & all log entry but I found below tech note on this.

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH21049

According to this I created a creation-date.txt file & found lot of directories & files are saved on this drive. I cant rename all files/directories with new time-stamp. Please suggest me any alternate solution if someone know to resolve this issue. Daily differential backup of this drive is more then 1TB.

Regards

Pradeep

Your title mentions cummulative incremental but in the first line you say differential backup.

Policy schedule is also called Daily_Diff but the type is CINC (cummulative incremental).

Were any changes made to policy after last successful Full backup? When was last successful full?

Policy changes are known for causing incrementals to run as full.

Hi Marianne,

Sorry for causing confusion to you. I write differential because backup type specified in policy is cummulative incremental and if I am right then (differential backup = backup after full backup & incremental backup= backup after full or last incremental backup) but in NB, diffential backup=cummulative incremental & incremental backup=differential incremental.

I dont know if someone change the policy after full backup and dont know how to identified who have made changes? But as per suggestion I have created a seprate policy(new) for this & will test it in comming weekend. Every friday night full backup happened for this server.

I will update if this problem will get resolved by doing this.

Thanks

Pradeep
