Custom Report for listing Directories

Created: 15 Oct 2013 | 5 comments

Most of the data I backup is unique, with keep forever retention. One example is: the data is in directories with the naming convention 'dpsXXXX', with XXXX being a unique number.

I am looking for a way to list the 'dps' directories backed up, so this can be exported to a spreadsheet. The Restore Wizard does a great job of finding the directory names and path, but does not provide a means to export them.

...have you checked out the custom reporting options?

If there is nothing there, you could try querying the BEDB, but this isn't recommended by Symantec, which leaves a third-party application to pull your reports for you. I used the last option and it worked well as BE's reports weren't that great to be honest. Which is a pity!

Alternative ways to access Backup Exec Technical Support:

I did check out all the custom reports, but no luck. I will look into querying.

It is cumbersome, but you can use CatTools to dump out the catalogs and then manipulate the results

When I run cattools, I get 'The application was unable to start correctly (0x0000007b). I tried it with and without any qualifiers and get the same results. I also tried running it from explorer, with 'run as administrator', same results.

I am running Backup Exec 2012 version 14 rev 1798 (64 bit) on Windows 2008 Server R2 standard.

This error seems to be something to do with .NET Framework. Stop Backup Exec services when no jobs are running and then try to repair .NET framework.
