Custom Worker Page

Created: 02 May 2012 • Updated: 08 May 2012 | 12 comments

I'm curious to know what people have done to customize their worker page. I'm looking for some ideas on how to make our page more efficient for our workers and this is what I've come up with but still thing there's a lot of improvement that can be made. It would be nice to trade ideas and see what others are doing in their company.

Ours is pretty basic compared to yours.   If you do not mind me asking... Where did you get that global search?

Thank you for sharing!

Global Search was given to us by a consultant and honestly it doesn't work very well because the SQL for it is shoddy and doesn't return all the results if you put in certain parameters but it's better than what's out of the box.

It's a webform project that I display in an iFrame. I've been trying to get the SQL library from them for months so we can fix it but it seems like they've dropped off the globe. Great costumer service huh?

Wow.  Is that on the list of 7.5 wishes?

Who knows what they have in mind for the 7.5 update as they are pretty closed about the Service Desk roadmap.

Your Worker page does seem to be pretty normal. This is close to what most of the worker pages tend to look like (with the actual reports varying a little).

One thing to definitely keep in mind with custom pages that get used a lot (like Worker page) is to always have a row limit for the reports on the page. Even if you have a good hardware, generating reports with thousands of rows will be very bad for page load times, if not for general performance.

I could have sworn that there is an Idea about advanced search for ServiceDesk but I couldn't see one now. If this is what you need, make sure there is an Idea specifically for that and you may want to mention it in 7.5 thread as well.

Toomas I think there are a couple. One that I just found is here: http://www.symantec.com/connect/ideas/servicedesk-71-improvements its just a little buried with a couple ther ideas in the same thread. I think there are more out there too.

We need a real search form and not just an editable report. What is there is not good enough and there is a reason why ITS build their own search form for customers. Something similar to this should be standard with. Servicedesk.

I added a module to add new users, as well as the one to search for users. We have customers that are not on our domain, so an AD import would not add them and we have to do it manually. Also, we have to update them from time to time and reset their password.

Is the new user module something you made or picked up?

The New User module is a standard web part under the section "Accounts(5)". It is called "AddNewUserWebPart". I should have called it a web part, instead of a module. Sorry for the confusion.

It is okay.  I have been tied up trying to setup Hamburger here that I would have been able to get around to reading this until now.
