This issue has been solved. See solution.

We have Backup Exec 2010 R2 and Backup Exec 2012 SP2 in place and installed on seperate Media Server. Gradually we are going to move all our Backup jobs from Backup Exec 2010 to Backup Exec 2012. Server where Backup Exec 2010 is installed is a File Server. Where i have a confusion is is there a possiblity to take backup of the File Server where Backup Exec 2010 is installed.

I beleive there is no agent installed on a media server. So how Backup Exec agent will be installed on Server which host BE 2010.?

Any Advice

Hi,

The Backup Exec Remote Agent is installed by default on the media server when you install the full version. BE will not run on the media server without this particular service installed and running.

You should be able to point Backup Exec 2012 to the BE 2010 media server and back it up. No need to upgrade the agent as this will definitely fail during the preinstallation check.

Thanks!
