DAgent vs AClient
Hi,
I just want to ask. What are the difference between DAgent and Aclient?
We're using DS 6.9 SP2 and when I tried to use Dagent instead of AClient.. When I deploy software packages it go through using silent install but some of the software that I install it doesn't work.
and also CHAT is not supported by DAgent. Our PC is only windows XP..
and for AClient.. when I use it to deploy software packages it go through but it needs user intervention to install the software successfully.
Is there a way to install software packages using AClient without user intervention? or SILENT install?
I dont want user to know that Im installing software to there PC..
please help me..
Thank you..
DAgent vs AClient
DAgent is the direction that Altiris is moving, however, if you only have XP, I highly recommend that you keep using AClient. DAgent will have to be used for Vista, Windows 7 and 2008.
As for silent installs. It all depends on the software that you are trying to install. Some software out there do not support truly silent installs. Others do but may require a script or transform file for it to work. I would play with the install packages outside of DS first to see if you can get it to install silently, and then use any switches that you find that work inside of DS.
www.appdeploy.com
AppDeploy is a great site for grabbing the tricks of the trade for performing silent installations. You can learn a heck of a lot about app deployment by following a few threads through over there.
As for DAgent vs AClient, as bhawver says its the way things are now going. The DAgent is the latest generation agent for Deployment Server. If you have connectivity or power control issues on your XP Clients, it might be worth trying a shift to DAgent. However, if you don't suffer from such problems I wouldn't recommend changing.
If it ain't broke as they say....
