Using NS how do you deploy 1 Task but this 1 Task will run multiple .EXE's?   We need to run 3 packages and all 3 packages need to be installed in a row since they are dependent on each other.   Where in the NS console/web page can you setup a task to deploy more than 1 package?  I have looked at the TOOLS\SOFTWARE DELIVER WIZARD\TASK\PACKAGE TAB and don't see it.

you are using? The most logical process for v6 would be Sequential Software Delivery. For v7 Managed Software Delivery would be the way to go. You may want to investigate some of the existing documentation if you were to go either route.

You could always get creative and batch\script it up and just deploy it that way.

Ok, here is what I did.   I have 3 packages that need to run.  Using the Wizard & Status tool I created 3 new package jobs.   I then "right clicked" my package folder and picked "New Task/Job".   I created a new "Client Job" and I added my 3 packages that need to run.

Here is my problem.  I did deploy this new Job to 1 machine.  All 3 packages show up when I run the AeXSWDUsrUIWin.exe.  But none of them will run.  I have to manually run them.  Why?  Well I have 3 seperate jobs and when you create a job you must select a collection.  So I can either choose a MANUAL or SCHEDULED job.  If I pick manual (which is what I did) then the packages do get to the target machine but they won't run since they are manual :-)     But if I pick Scheduled then then run on their own.

So how do you daisy-chain your 3 packages and get them to run on a target machine(s) without end user interaction?

So I found in NS where you can setup a Sequential Task.   But I have the same problem.   When setting up your sequential task you still need to pick existing packages to run.  Each package has to target a collection.  And you have to pick Schedule or Manual.   And if I have each package set to on a schedule then they will run on their own so I have to pick manual.  And since they are set to manual when my sequential task runs it does copy down each package but nothing runs since they are all manaul.

So how do you get around this issue?

    Thank you.

You should only be able to assign the entire task to one collection. Yes, you do need to have the packages created ahead of time. It's been awhile since I've run v6 SWD tasks, however, I believe it is designed to not run manually.

See Altiris KB28929, and Altiris KB35831. Another option to consider is Task Server, which is like Deployment Solution is how you can chain jobs together.

Thank you.  Yes, we did follow that.  We setup the Task and this Task has 3 packages.   We even did this:  All 3 packages were setup to run on a schedule (run once as soon as computer is notified) and then each package was disabled.   Same result.  our target machines do get all 3 packages but they never run.

Not sure what to try next

Sorry, but I guess I'm not understanding you, and for that I apologize. I've never had these issues, at least to this level, with Sequential jobs. Can you post screenshots of your task? If clients are running the jobs, do they have the Task Snychronization Agent installed? Check their Altiris agent log files when the tasks should have executed.

I don't understand what you're doing.  You create a new Sequential Software Delivery, there is only a way to schedule the entire Task, not each program within the task.  See here:

Then you simply create your 3 packages and create the dependency, and deploy the last one...the other two will be recognized and deployed automagically.
