    Hello,

I'd like to migrate an SQL DB but we don't know the credentials in order to detach it first, as recommended by Symantec guides. Is it enough to stop SQL service and then copy the 'sem5' mdf, ldf and ndf files over to new location?

whant to migrate sql db to new sql server, even if you detach and place on new server, you need to run the sql migration wizard, which will ask for sql creds im afraid.

Right. I'll have to go see the client and try to dig up the password.

Thanks. I'll look at these. But again this is for MSSQL credentials, not SEPM. But I see the articles might also apply here, I'll have a look.

The articles suggest you need the password and cannot proceed without it. You will be prompted for them

If you cannot detach the DB, then I'd suggest you stop the entire SQL instance itself before the copy/paste.

I'm pretty sure it'd work, but haven't tried it myself (nor do I think it'd be supported if it all went kablooey so take a SEP DB backup from SEPM first!)

Also (having just read Rafeeq's post), assuming you are attaching the DB to a new instance (over which you'd have full control) then there'd be no need for the creds of the old instance.

Assuming the attach works, you'd just need to create a new account (windows or SQL) in the new instance, and assign it the db_owner rights to the SEP DB.
